It's only been 5 years since the last reunion but I feel I have aged 10 or more years. With that in mind I remember a saying: "Within the body of every old person is a young person screaming what the hell went wrong?"; I faintly hear that voice every now and then.
I don't golf as much as I did in the past, but with luck I still can shoot a 79 or 80.
I still deer hunt but NOT from a tree stand.
I will fish when I can find someone with a boat and preferably a cottage or summer home on a lake.
Not that active in sports anymore but I still follow the NFL (Packers and to some degree the Colts) and NBA (Pacers)
.....It's easier to watch them on TV than fight the crowds and the weather. Granted I miss the fun and social interaction, but I don't miss climbing stairs without railings and the waiting in line for the rest room. Age must be setting in!!
Outsource is a nasty word in manufacturing but under my current philosophy it's a prerequisite if you want to make your life safer and easier. Just hire people to do the housework you did in your younger years.
A humorous update:
My wife joined me in the leisure life of retirement which was just fine for her, but since I had retired years earlier I had become so set in my ways that the two of us in the house for most of the time became cumbersome. She was taking up my space!! I was given the opportunity to leave but declined .....her pension, social security, and consulting fees were a factor.
We were hosting a small dinner party and I was using my Big Green Egg to grill the steaks. As the temperature increased I tossed the steaks on the grill and let the temperature increase to 650 degrees. After 3 minutes I had a nice char and opened the top, forgetting to "burp" the Egg. The hot air exploded out of the Egg burning my beard, mustache, eyebrows, and hair both on my arm and head. Fortunately I wasn't hurt, but my body had the distinct odor of a singed chicken. You may be able to identify If your memory is still good and your mother bought a whole chicken at the butcher shop (remember those?) My mother always burned the pin feathers off the chicken by rotating it by hand over the gas stove.
No new body parts for me at this juncture of life but by the next reunion I might need one.....guess what I am thinking about??
Oh, one last thought. I am thinking about an audition with Dancing with the Stars.....watch for me! Those of you that know/knew me are probably laughing. If you are not, you have a problem. Cheers!!!
Once again unable to attend the festivities. Please enjoy the day and keep me in your thoughts.
"Abner"; (Bob Kaye).
